Cabinet gives approval to decontrolling sugar sector with certain riders as Sugar mills will get flexibility to sell products in open market and Levy sugar system will be abolished.

The food ministry had already suggested that the levy-sugar mechanism, which mandates mills to sell 10 per cent of their annual produce to the government at cheap rates for sale through ration shops at even lower prices, be abolished.

The Sugar mills will get flexibility to sell products in open market.
