Demand to calculate House Rent Allowance based on Census 2011 should gain prominence..! Demand to increase House Rent Allowance Must Get Stronger! House Rent Allowance to Central Government employees is now calculated on the basis of the population census of 2001. The cities and towns are classified as X, Y, and Z, based on their population. Employees in these towns are eligible for 30%, 20% and 10% House Rent Allowances respectively. Population census is conducted once every ten years. The most recent census was held in 2011. Official information and findings of the Census was sent by the registrar General & Census Commissioner to the Finance Ministry a long time ago. It is well known that the Confederation Secretary General had recently sent a letter to the Finance Ministry reiterating that the House rent Allowance must be recalculated on the basis of the new Census-2011 report.

Interest rate on home loans The below information compiled from the written reply of Minister of State for Finance to a question in Parliament on 6.8.2013... 1% Interest Subvention Scheme: To stimulate demand for credit for housing in the middle & lower income segment, a scheme of 1% Interest Subvention Scheme for Individual housing loans up to 10 Lakh and cost of the unit up to 20 lakh was introduced by the Government from 1st October, 2009. From FY 2011-12, eligibility under the Scheme has been increased for housing loan up to 15 lakh, where the cost of unit does not exceed 25 lakh. All States/UTs in the country, including rural & urban areas are covered under the Scheme. The Scheme has helped in increased access to houses by individuals. Revision of HRA for Karnataka State Govt employees Karnataka Government has decided to revise the places and rate of House Rent Allowance to the employees working under State Government. Earlier the Government has constituted a committee as Official Pay Committee 2011, as per recommendations of the committee the places of cities and towns are classified into 4 types for the purpose of HRA with the connection of population based. Now the Government has approved to re-classify the Urban and Rural areas in the State as A, B and C categories for the purpose of HRA and the revise the rates accordingly...
