No Proposal regarding raising the retirement age before the Government Following is the text of the Press Statement issued by the Department of Personnel & Training, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions today, to clarify that there is no proposal before the Government regarding raising the retirement age of Central Government employees from 60 years to 62 years :- “Attention of the Government has been drawn to reports appearing in some sections of the media regarding raising the retirement age of Central Government employees from 60 to 62 years. In order to put at rest all such speculations, it is clarified that there is no such proposal before the Government.”

This move that has been greeted by experts and its come to effect through the Tamil Nadu Universities Laws (Amendments) Ordinance, 2012. The Tamil Nadu Governor has promulgated this ordinance on July 14. The nine Universities are : 1 Bharathiar University, 2 Bharathidasan University, 3 Mother Terasa Women’s University, 4 Alagappa University, 5 Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, 6 Periyar University, 7 Tamil Nadu Open University, 8 Tiruvalluvar University and 9 Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University.

Today PIB has published the news about the retirement age of teachers to be increased to 65 proposal has been approved by the Cabinet. As in the state institutions, as per 6th CPC recommendations the decision is taken by the Government.   The Cabinet today approved the proposal to relax the condition of enhancement of age of superannuation of teachers to 65 in state institutions for the implementation of the revised pay scales on the basis of 6th Pay Commission recommendations and become eligible for receiving Central share of 80% of the arrear payment. It also decided that reimbursement of 80% of the Central share of the arrears be paid in 2-3 instalments to those States who have already made the payment and submitted their proposals for reimbursements to the Central Government. The decision of Cabinet is expected to provide relief to teachers in State institutions with the payment of arrears. Employees are retiring from their service on the first month of block years, they will be eligible to avail LTC. The only condition is the return journey should be completed with in the date of retirement. For example, an employee will be retire on 31st January 2014. He will be eligible to avail LTC in the month of December 2013 to go with Home Town LTC or All India LTC and he will also be admitted to avail an another LTC in the month of January 2014. But he should be completed his returned journey before 31st January 2014.
