Andhra Pradesh Government Hikes Retirement Age to 60

The Andhra Pradesh state legislative has unanimously passed a resolution for increasing the retirement age from 58 to 60 for government employees. In addition to this, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has also announced a number of incentives and schemes for the state government employees. While introducing the Bill in the state legislative, the Chief Minister said that the current laws were implemented in 1984. The retirement age for central government employees has been increased to 60. According to a World health Organization report, the average lifespan for Indians is 65 years. Now that the state has been bifurcated, Andhra Pradesh requires the service of experienced employees. Therefore, the age of retirement is being increased from 58 to 60.

In addition to this, a number of incentives and benefits are also going to be offered to the state government employees. Schemes will be launched to ensure that at the time of retirement, the employee owns a house. Medical insurance plans will also be given. All these schemes will be implemented in stages. He also said that absence due to participation in anti-bifurcation protests will be treated as leave. His speech was followed by the passing of the Bill recommending the increasing of superannuation age from 58 to 60 for State Government employees.

The retirement age for Central Government employees was increased from 58 to 60 in 1998. According to the World Health Organization, the average life expectancy for Indians is 65 years. There is now a requirement for experienced state government employees to sustain and ensure the growth and development of Andhra Pradesh. The State Government and its employees shall hand-in-hand toil for the development of Andhra Pradesh. New job opportunities should be created in public and private sectors.

The Government is very firm on implementing its project to guarantee employment for at least one person in each family in the state.

The resolution to increase the retirement age for State Government employees from 58 to 60 was passed unanimously and without debate in the state legislative meeting.
