HRD Ministry to Open 50 Educational DTH Channels The HRD Ministry will soon launch 50 DTH educational channels. This was stated by the Secretary (HE) Sh Ashok Thakur in New Delhi today. He said these channels will be different from the existing programmes on air including Gyan Darshan as new one will be more interactive. He said these channels will air programmes which will be live and not pre recorded. Saying that the new initiatives will be one of the largest anywhere in the world of its kind, Sh. Thakur said later on the number of the channels will be increased to one thousand. He said that the Ministry has spent more than one billion dollars for ICT. Over 400 universities and twenty thousand colleges have been linked with bandwidth. He said there is a great potential to increase its usage. Digitisation of Cable Television has numerous benefits for all the stakeholders of the sector including consumers. The consumers get better signal quality for all the subscribed channels and they have a lot more choice of channels and services, such as interactive value added services, triple play with broadband, movie on demand etc., to choose from. Cable TV Networks (Regulation) Act - State level Monitoring Committees and District level Monitoring Committees to monitor the programmes of all private satellite/cable television channels including the regional language channels.   “The provisions of the Cable TV Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995 and Rules framed thereunder, is applicable to all private satellite/cable television channels including the regional language channels. In addition the Government have set up State level and District level monitoring Committees around the Country for monitoring content telecast in private satellite/Cable Television channels. So far, 21 State level Monitoring Committees including Union Territories and 274 District level Monitoring Committees have been set up across the country, the list is placed in Annexure.
